Over 500 new category 3 environmental declarations in the NMD

In mid-October, Stichting NMD will add over 500 new generic environmental declarations (category 3) for the building sector (B&U). These include foundations, roofs, main load-bearing structures, facade and roof openings, insulation materials and a large number of building services installations.

Why this expansion?

MPG and MKI calculations, and soon WLC-GWP, require reliable environmental data for all building elements. Where no product-specific environmental declaration exists (yet), Stichting NMD provides a generic environmental declaration. Over the past year, projects were launched with partners for this purpose, covering almost all NL-SfB elements. See the planning and status on our website.e.

Which elements?

Foundations and ground: ground provisions, foundation structures, pile foundations
Structure and roofs: roofs, main load-bearing structures
Openings: external wall openings, roof openings
Insulation materials
Mechanical installations: cooling generation, heat generation, heat emission systems, air handling
Electrical installations: central electrical systems, EV charging infrastructure, lighting fixtures

What does this mean for calculations?

Before publication of these environmental declarations, an impact analysis was carried out, including calculations for reference buildings. The analysis shows no major deviations. Where differences do occur, alternative environmental declarations are available.

What is next?

Around 300 more environmental declarations are expected by the end of 2026. These include external and internal walls, lifts, stairs, ceiling finishes, other installations, and drainage, water and gas systems. Additional projects for building services installations are also underway, in consultation with supply chain partners. The final projects of the large-scale quality improvement programme will be delivered in early 2027.
