LCA practitioners and reviewers

To prepare and assess a category 1 or 2 environmental declaration, the Dutch Environmental Database requires a (recognised) LCA practitioner and a recognised LCA reviewer. On this page you can find a recognised LCA specialist, or register yourself as a recognised LCA practitioner or reviewer.

For producers who want to have an LCA prepared or assessed, and for LCA professionals who want to become recognised.

Are you a  producer or  LCA reviewer or practitioner?

Before a category 1 or 2 environmental declaration can be included in the Dutch Environmental Database, an LCA (life cycle assessment) must be prepared. And once the data has been submitted, it must be assessed. The (recognised) LCA practitioner carries out the LCA study and prepares the environmental declaration; the recognised LCA reviewer then independently assesses whether this has been done correctly and completely. Both roles are recognised by NMD based on a fixed assessment protocol. On this page you can read how to find a recognised practitioner or reviewer, and how to register yourself.

Practitioner and reviewer: two separate roles

The LCA practitioner carries out the LCA study and prepares the environmental declaration. The LCA reviewer then assesses whether this study was carried out correctly and whether the data is complete and accurate. This assessment must be carried out by an independent third party: an LCA reviewer may not have been involved in the underlying study, and the assessment may not be carried out by a colleague of the practitioner.

Looking for a recognised practitioner or reviewer

The list of recognised LCA practitioners and reviewers can be searched by name, company, and specialisation (material type, B&U or GWW).

Looking for an LCA firm?

NMD only recognises individual LCA practitioners and reviewers, based on the assessment protocol. Firms themselves are not separately assessed or recommended by NMD. Looking for an LCA firm? The Association for LCAs in Construction (VLCA) maintains a list of firms active in this field.

For LCA professionals: apply for accreditation

How do you become recognised?

NMD recognises LCA practitioners and reviewers based on a fixed assessment protocol. Anyone who meets the stated requirements is included in the list of recognised practitioners and reviewers. The requirements for becoming a recognised LCA reviewer are stricter than the requirements for a recognised LCA practitioner: accreditation as a practitioner can be seen as a first step towards that qualification.

Register environmental data without accreditation

In addition to recognised LCA practitioners, non-recognised practitioners can also submit data. This is mainly intended for people who only prepare LCAs on behalf of the producer of the construction materials, for example for their own product range. You can request login credentials for this.
