New environmental declarations for energy carriers
Use and application in the Environmental Performance Calculation, the Material-Energy-Related Environmental Performance Calculation, and the WLC-GWP calculations.
Stichting Nationale Milieudatabase (NMD) has published a new set of environmental declarations for energy carriers. In addition to the energy carriers, the environmental declarations for energy infrastructure have also been updated, and several existing declarations have been replaced or deactivated.
Alongside updated declarations for electricity, gas and heat supply, the new set includes new environmental declarations for, among others, biogas, hydrogen, future Dutch electricity and gas mixes (2025-2075), various renewable heat sources and battery storage.
The environmental declarations are applied within three calculation methods: the EPB calculation (materialisation of energy infrastructure), the material and energy-related calculation set out in chapter 4 of the Assessment Method for Environmental Performance of Construction Works, and the WLC-GWP calculation.
Please note: no validated calculation tools are yet available for carrying out WLC-GWP calculations.
