Categories of environmental declarations in the Dutch Environmental Database

In de Nationale Milieudatabase worden milieuverklaringen ingedeeld in categorie 1, 2 en 3. Deze indeling geeft aan of de onderliggende milieudata merkgebonden, branchegebonden of generiek is en in welke mate deze is getoetst.

Categories 1, 2 and 3 form the standard classification of environmental declarations within the Dutch Environmental Database. This classification distinguishes between product-specific, sector-specific and generic data. The category determines under which conditions the data is made available in the database and how it is applied in environmental performance calculations.

Why does the Dutch Environmental Database use categories?

The Dutch Environmental Database contains different types of environmental data. Not all data is product-specific or developed in the same way.

The category classification ensures:

  • a transparent structure within the database
  • clarity on the origin of the data
  • distinction in verification and level of public availability
