Assessment Method for Environmental Performance of Buildings version 2.0 in effect today
As of today, Version 2.0 of the Assessment Method for Environmental Performance of Buildings has officially been incorporated into the Environment and Planning Regulation. At the same time, new and revised MPG requirements for offices, non-residential buildings and residential buildings have taken effect. We previously shared these changes and what they mean for practice. As of today, they are officially in effect.
Key changes at a glance
As of today, environmental performance calculations must be carried out using Set A2. This set aligns with the European standard EN 15804+A2 and includes 19 environmental impact categories, compared with the previous Set A1, which covered 11 categories. This change affects the environmental profiles of construction products and, consequently, the outcomes of environmental performance calculations.
The MPG requirements have also been updated. The requirement for office buildings has been tightened by 15%. Non-residential buildings, such as schools, retail buildings, healthcare facilities and industrial buildings, are now subject to an MPG requirement for the first time. More flexible requirements apply to small dwellings and non-compact office buildings. For buildings with multiple occupancy functions, a weighted environmental performance requirement is applied based on the gross floor area of each function.
What does this mean in practice?
Designers and consultants carrying out environmental performance calculations will, from today, work with Set A2 and the corresponding requirements. Set A2 data is available through the Dutch Environmental Database and can be used with the available validated calculation tools.
