Release NMD process database v3.10

On January 20 2025, all licensees of the National Environmental Database received the new version, v3.10, of the NMD process database. The NMD process database includes category 1 & 2 processes as well as generic basic processes (category 3) for use in LCAs by LCA preparers. Relevant processes in the NMD process database include material production and processing, waste treatment, transportation and energy generation.

The NMD process database version 3.10 is delivered in two variants, one based on Ecoinvent 3.6 and one based on Ecoinvent 3.9.1. The name shows which version is involved. In Amendment 5 to Assessment Method 1.1, which is effective from 1-1-2025, Ecoinvent 3.9.1 is designated for 'set 2' for the preparation of new environmental declarations in the NMD, with a transition period of 6 months. For 'set 1' of new environmental statements in the NMD, Ecoinvent 3.6 will continue to apply.

As an LCA preparer or reviewer, you can use the NMD process database for your analyses. The database is available through a license that you can obtain from the National Environmental Database Foundation (NMD Foundation). The NMD process database is compatible with the SimaPro software tool.
