Getting to know Marcel Bregman

As of 1 April 2025, Marcel Bregman has joined Stichting NMD as Chief Operating Officer.
With his arrival, the organisation strengthens its executive team during an important period of growth, collaboration, and innovation in the construction sector.

Marcel brings many years of experience in roles at the intersection of policy, innovation and operations.
He will focus on enhancing internal processes, optimising service delivery, and strengthening NMD’s connection with partners in the field.

We asked Marcel a few quick questions to get to know him a little better:

Can you briefly introduce yourself?

I’m Marcel Bregman — a true Rotterdammer in how I think and act. I feel at home in a straightforward environment. I've been working for years in roles that bridge the profit and non-profit sectors. I like working towards ideals that actually lead to results. I’m all about practical solutions and achieving things together. Outside of work, I have broad interests: sports, culture, travel — so there’s always something to talk about.

What attracted you to the role of Chief Operating Officer at NMD?

For me, this role brings everything together: social relevance, working with specialists, and the opportunity to truly drive change. The transition to a more sustainable built environment is urgently needed, and NMD plays a unique role in that — independent, content-driven, and focused on connection. That really aligns with the way I like to work. And being part of a compact organisation with wide reach offers plenty of space for entrepreneurship and collaboration.

What opportunities do you see for NMD in the years ahead?

Interest in circular and sustainable construction is growing rapidly. That also increases the demand for reliable data and clear methodologies. NMD is at the heart of that. I see opportunities to expand our reach, further strengthen the data, and deepen our collaboration with both market players and government. That way, we remain relevant and future-proof.

How do you see NMD’s role in the sustainability of the construction sector?

Without solid data, you can’t make good decisions. NMD makes sustainability measurable and comparable — which is essential if you want to make real impact. Our role is to support stakeholders who want to calculate, substantiate, and improve their sustainability performance. Whether it’s in policy, design, or execution: we provide a solid foundation for sustainable ambitions.
