NMD and Europe
European legislation and regulations increasingly affect the Dutch system for environmental performance calculations. This page is the landing page for policymakers, producers, advisers and tool holders who want to know which European developments are relevant and how they are reflected in the Dutch system.
European regulations operate at different levels. Some frameworks, such as the Green Deal and Fit for 55, set the broader climate targets. Other legislation acts directly on the construction product, such as the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), or on the building, such as the EPBD directive with the WLC-GWP system resulting from it. In practice, these parts are often used interchangeably, even though they do not regulate the same thing. Stichting NMD closely follows these developments and is working on a clear Dutch translation of them, with implications for the existing steering instruments for sustainability, such as the Environmental Performance Assessment Method for Construction Works. On this page you will find the underlying topics explained separately, and an overview showing how they relate to each other.
What does this mean for the NMD system?
European legislation has consequences for the Environmental Performance Assessment Method for Construction Works, and therefore for the way the ECB, the WLC-GWP and the ECI are calculated and applied. What these consequences will look like exactly is still under development. Stichting NMD is working this out step by step, in coordination with the ministries and executive organisations involved. As soon as there are new developments or decisions, we will report them and update this page.
