NMD Verification Protocol
Before category 1 and category 2 data can be added to the Dutch Environmental Database (NMD), the environmental data and the corresponding LCA project file must be reviewed by an LCA reviewer recognised by Stichting NMD. The purpose of this review is to assess whether the submitted environmental data has been prepared in accordance with the Assessment Method. All data included in the NMD after 1 January 2020 must be assessed based on the current NMD Verification Protocol.
For data owners, LCA practitioners and recognised LCA reviewers.
All data included in the NMD after 1 January 2020 is assessed based on the current NMD Verification Protocol. Two additional forms of review also exist for the GWW sector (civil engineering and infrastructure): the pre-review, which checks a project-specific LCA on its main points before submission without a complete review taking place, and the as-built review, which checks whether the products and materials actually used match the LCA submitted earlier. If you want to submit environmental data or apply for recognition as an LCA reviewer, more information is available here.
Independent verification of environmental data
To ensure the quality and reliability of the Dutch Environmental Database, Category 1 and Category 2 environmental declarations are independently verified before publication. The NMD Verification Protocol describes how this verification is carried out and the requirements that environmental declarations must meet.
The protocol is aligned with the current version of the Assessment Method for Environmental Performance of Construction Works and contributes to a consistent and transparent assessment of environmental data.
Who is it for?
The protocol is intended for:
- manufacturers and data owners
- LCA practitioners
- recognised LCA verifiers
- trade associations
