Managing your environmental declaration

As a producer or supplier, you are the data owner of one or more products in the Dutch Environmental Database (NMD). On this page you will find practical information on how to keep your environmental declarations up to date and show that your products are part of the NMD.

When your product is included in the Dutch Environmental Database (NMD), you have an environmental declaration that is used in environmental performance calculations. It is important that this declaration remains current and correct, so that designers, clients and other users can work with reliable data. On this page you can read how to implement changes, how to arrange an extension, and how to use the official NMD product label.

Managing your environmental declaration

When your product is in the NMD, an environmental declaration is available that is used in environmental performance calculations. This declaration is valid for five years from the date of publication in the NMD.

Changes impacting the ECI

Would you like to make a change after publication that affects the ECI of the environmental declaration, for example due to a change in production or composition? This must always be done via your LCA practitioner.

The practitioner enters the change in the input platform
A recognised LCA reviewer assesses the adjustment
After approval, the updated version appears in the NMD

Changes without impact on the ECI

Some changes have no effect on the ECI, such as adjustments in:

units
service life
title or explanation of the declaration
general language errors
name of data owner
scope of application
classification

For these types of changes, the data owner can request Stichting NMD to make the adjustment. In such a request:

the data owner explicitly authorises the modification
good faith is assumed and the data owner indemnifies Stichting NMD from liability
the original LCA practitioner and LCA reviewer are included in the communication

Updating and extending

After the validity period (five years after the publication date of the LCA report) a new LCA must be prepared and reviewed. This ensures that your product remains up to date and can be used continuously in environmental performance calculations. Contact your LCA practitioner in time to ensure a smooth extension..

Product variants

If your product is included in the NMD, you may use the official product label. This makes it visible that your product is in the database and can be included in environmental performance calculations.

Use of the NMD product visual mark

If your product is registered in the NMD, you may use the official product visual mark. This shows that your product is included in the database and can be used in environmental performance calculations.

You can use the product visual mark in quotations, product sheets or on your website.
You must follow the guidelines for using the product visual mark.
It is not permitted to use the product visual mark for products that are not registered in the database.
