Monique Peeters - Product Owner
Sustainable and circular construction is no longer an optional ambition, it’s a necessity. At the same time, it’s an opportunity to make the construction sector smarter, healthier, and future-proof. Reliable, high-quality data is essential in this process. It allows us to objectively measure what is truly sustainable – and what isn’t. IT plays a key role in this: it makes environmental data usable in practice, from input to analysis and application.
As a Product Owner at Stichting Nationale Milieudatabase, I translate the needs of users and stakeholders into concrete IT solutions. Together with developers and subject matter experts, I work on further developing our database and input platform, and on making our data accessible for use in MPG calculation tools and other applications. The market’s demands are constantly evolving, which calls for smart and flexible IT. In doing so, I continuously seek the right balance between user-friendliness and technical feasibility – with data reliability as a non-negotiable condition.
Ultimately, my work is about making choices: what truly adds value? Where can we make the biggest impact? That’s how I enjoy contributing to a strong, future-proof foundation for environmental data in the construction sector.
From personal experience, I know how valuable sustainable building can be. Together with my husband, I live in a city center home in Dordrecht, built with biobased materials. The indoor climate is comfortable and pleasant, the straw insulation works excellently against both cold and heat, and the natural materials create a healthy living environment. To me, it proves: sustainable living isn’t just better for the environment – it’s simply a great way to live!
