Civil Engineering
The government imposes requirements on environmental impact, which in Civil Engineering often find their way into tenders in the form of the Environmental Cost Indicator (ECI). In addition to being an award criterion, the ECI can also be used in other ways in procurement processes. For instance, in the preparation phase of a tender, to validate or substantiate earlier design choices.

Within the system, the Assessment Method specifies how the ECI should be drawn up and calculated in the form of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). For objects, products and materials, this LCA translates into the ECI. The lower the ECI, the lower the environmental impact.
