It has now been a year since we moved to our new office in the Monarch Tower in The Hague. One year on, we are still very satisfied. From this innovative and sustainable workplace, we contribute on a daily basis to the transition towards a climate-neutral construction sector.

The design and fit-out of our office were carried out by Totaal Kantoorinrichting. In both the furnishing and use of the office, conscious choices were made for sustainable and circular solutions. Not as an end in itself, but because they align with the way we work and with what Stichting NMD stands for.

Working green with Circular Green

To make the office truly green, we lease reused plants from Circular Green, distributed throughout the entire floor. Each plant has its own plant passport containing information about the type of plant, the required amount of sunlight and the locations where the plant has previously been used.

Not all plants are placed in soil; some are set in a substrate made of fully circular mineral granules. The pots in which the plants are placed are also reused — some are even former containers from our previous office.

Circular Green takes care of and maintains the plants throughout their entire life cycle. This is done in a way that aligns with their circular approach, which also involves people with a distance to the labour market. In this way, the greenery in the office gains not only a functional role, but also a broader social value.

New lighting by Lixero

In August, the lighting in our office was also renewed. The luminaires were supplied and installed by Lixero. In their approach, there is room not only for technology and design, but also for social impact. Lixero involves people with a distance to the labour market in the assembly and execution of projects.

The luminaires use Yuugn lighting. These luminaires are 3D printed in the Netherlands and consist of 97% recycled plastic sourced from industrial residual streams. By producing only what is needed, material waste is reduced and raw materials are kept in the chain for as long as possible.

The selected Yuugn luminaires are tailored to the layout and use of the office. They provide uniform lighting at workstations and in meeting rooms, with attention to energy use and service life. At the end of their use phase, the luminaires can be recycled again into new printable material, ensuring that valuable raw materials are preserved.

Rooted in The Hague

At the opening of the new office, we also donated a tree to the Municipality of The Hague together with Totaal Kantoorinrichting. The tree marks the moment of the relocation and symbolises our shared commitment to a sustainable future.

One year later, the tree is still there — healthy and thriving — on Carpentierstraat in The Hague. It serves as a lasting reminder of the start in the Monarch Tower and of the long-term perspective with which Stichting NMD works on reliable environmental data and the sustainability of the built environment.
