Cat. 3 Viewer API (beta) available: Generic environmental data directly accessible
The Dutch Environmental Database has released the Cat. 3 Viewer API (beta), allowing users to easily access and apply Category 3 environmental data from the Dutch Environmental Database in their own applications.
The Cat. 3 Viewer API was developed as part of the DigiDeal supporting the design process with environmental data. The DigiGO programme is working towards a cohesive digital information provision for the construction and infrastructure sectors.
The Cat. 3 Viewer API serves as a supportive and informative resource for anyone working with environmental data in these sectors—from software developers and data analysts to policy officers, researchers, and designers. This opens the door to new applications and insights, complementing the existing system of validated calculation tools.
Access to generic environmental data
Through the Cat. 3 Viewer API, users can access the generic environmental data established by the Dutch Environmental Database when no product- or brand-specific environmental declarations are (yet) available. These data include the applicable 30% markup factor and provide insight into the environmental impact of material applications at a high level. Only the data currently visible in the Dutch Environmental Database Viewer is shared—no additional data is provided.
The API is explicitly not intended for performing a validated environmental performance calculation in accordance with the Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving (Environmental Performance of Construction Works Decree). For legally valid calculations, the use of a validated calculation tool from a recognised tool holder remains mandatory. The Viewer API is supplementary and designed for exploration and analysis purposes.
Terms of use for the beta phase
The use of the Cat. 3 Viewer API is subject to clear conditions. The data may only be used for internal purposes and must not be redistributed or reused commercially. Proper attribution to the Dutch Environmental Database is mandatory for any use. All terms and conditions for using the Cat. 3 Viewer API are outlined in the document.
Invitation to explore and contribute
With the Cat. 3 Viewer API, the Dutch Environmental Database aims to promote transparency, innovation, and better use of environmental data. The beta phase provides an opportunity to collaborate with users, identifying what works, which applications add value, and where further development is needed.
Organisations and professionals interested in experimenting with Category 3 data in their own environments are invited to request access. By doing so, they not only gain valuable insights for themselves but also contribute to the ongoing development of the Dutch Environmental Database as a public system.
You can request access and review the terms and conditions via the Cat. 3 Viewer API page.
