Amendment 6

As of July 1, 2025, the changes from Amendment 6 will come into effect. This publication accompanies Assessment Method version 1.2. Below is an overview of the key sections with the most important updates:

A. Changes Regarding Set A2 and Ecoinvent

Several textual changes have been made in connection with the updated European standard (EN 15804+A2):

  • From July 1, 2025, it is mandatory to submit A2 data based on Ecoinvent 3.9.1 for inclusion in the NMD.
  • All references to the transition period between January 1, 2025, and July 1, 2025, are no longer applicable.

B. Addendum for Renovation and Transformation

The reference in section 3.3.3 to an addendum for existing buildings (W/E advisors, March 2014) has been updated to reflect a revised version.

C. Paragraph on Functional Unit or Product Unit

Paragraph 2.6.3.1 has been revised based on the new classification structure in the NMD. This paragraph outlines the rules for selecting a functional unit of a product for inclusion in the NMD.

The main difference is that in the new database structure, there is no longer a distinction between “total products” and “partial products.” Instead, the NMD now distinguishes between products that deliver all required performances per element/chapter and products that deliver one or a few required performances. When entering a product via the input platform, it can now be specified which element components the product covers.

D. Reference to Additional Information on Correct Application of Biogenic CO₂

The text has been supplemented with a reference to a memo and step-by-step guide prepared by LBP|SIGHT. This document explains how to correctly apply the biogenic CO₂ rules from EN 15804+A2. It serves as a practical guide for LCA practitioners and reviewers.

E. Adjustments to Chapter 3

In Amendment 5, two text passages were removed from Chapter 3 as part of the update of the calculation rules, aiming to improve readability. It has now been decided that two small elements are essential for the completeness of the Assessment Method and should be retained:

A clarification regarding the use of LCA environmental data for permit applications, specifying that the data present in the NMD at the time of application should be used.

A reference to the conditions under which environmental profiles may be used if they were not developed in accordance with the Assessment Method or have not yet been submitted for inclusion.

F. Adjustment to Paragraph in Chapter 1.2 Based on Process Database Protocol

A paragraph in Chapter 1.2 has been revised based on the protocol ‘Submitting Processes to the NMD Process Database.’ These changes are purely textual.
