Entry platform for LCA practitioners and LCA reviewers

General

1. What is the NMD’s entry platform?

The entry platform is used by LCA practitioners and recognised LCA reviewers to input and publish environmental declarations in the National Environmental Database (NMD). The NMD contains environmental declarations of construction products, building installations and processes, which are used to unambiguously calculate the material-specific environmental performance of construction works in the Dutch context.

The new entry platform replaces the old entry module from 2 September 2024. The first version of this platform will only support the entry of data in categories 1 and 2. The functionalities for entering category 3 data will be added to the same platform later in 2024.

2. Who uses the entry platform?

The platform is used by LCA practitioners who enter environmental statements into the NMD. In addition, recognised LCA reviewers use the platform to check and publish the data entered.

The platform can only be accessed if you have login details, which are issued and managed by Stichting NMD.

3. How can I access the entry platform?

By completing this form, you can register as an LCA practitioner. You will then receive login details to the entry platform from Stichting NMD.

If you already have login details for the old entry module, you will have received an e-mail on 2 September 2024 with a link to the new entry platform. Use the 'forgot password' option to create a new password, after which you can access the new platform.

4. What are the main changes compared with the old entry module?

In this article you can read more about the improvements made in the new entry platform.

Questions from users

5. What should I fill in at 'Owner of declaration '?

Here you need to fill in the data owner. For category 1 environmental declarations, that is the producer, for category 2 environmental declarations it is the industry association. The owner of category 3 and 3a data is always Stichting NMD.

6. Why can't I enter quantity per environmental profile?

In the old entry module, it was possible to enter a quantity per profile (PPP sheet). In the new entry platform, this option is no longer provided. The environmental profile represents part of the product declared in the declaration, so the quantity of the profile must be incorporated in the PPP sheet.

7. How can I update a published declaration in NMD?

Go to the 'recorded environmental declarations' list and click on the declaration you want to update to open it. Click on the 'Replacement request' button. A new version of the declaration will now open for you to fill in. This data will replace the published data, retaining the ID number. However, the registration date, and hence the 5-year expiry period of the dates, remains the same. Is it completely new data? Then create a new declaration and have the old data deactivated by notifying Stichting NMD. See FAQ 8. When do I create a new declaration and when do I update a declaration? for more information.

Note: The feature for updating a published declaration will be improved soon, see FAQ 9. What other new features are planned for the entry platform? (below)

8. When do I create a new declaration and when do I update a declaration?

The decision to create a new declaration or update the existing declaration is related to the registration date associated with the declaration and the validity of the dates.

The publication date shown in the viewer for the category 1 and 2 environmental declaration is the date when the data was registered and first published. This registration date is also the date on which the 5-year validity period started. When a new LCA is released (even if it is the same product that already has an MV in the NMD), a new declaration must therefore always be created.[LD1]

When updating an environmental declaration in NMD, a new version of the published declaration is created. This has the same ID number as the first version of the declaration. However, the registration date of the declaration does not change after publication of the new version. Environmental declarations are only updated when adjustments are made to the existing declaration, such as expanding the explanation, fixing any errors in the entry or adjusting the classification.

When the declaration publication date expires, Category 1 and 2 declarations are deactivated. The declaration is then given an 'end date'. When choosing a reference date in calculating tools that is after this end date, the data cannot be used. When choosing a reference date that is before this end date, the data can be used. This is why we do not talk about 'deleting' data, but of 'deactivating' data.

9. What other new features are planned for the entry platform?

Later in 2024 and 2025, the new entry platform will be further developed. Some of these new features to be released are explained below:

  • Updating a declaration will be made easier. In the new feature, a declaration will be updated from a completed copy of the published environmental declaration, rather than from a blank copy.
  • The new scaling formulas will be added from 1-1-2025 (see amendment sheet amendment 5 to Assessment Method 1.1)
  • It will be possible to choose multiple elements per declaration. This eliminates the need to enter declarations twice if they fall under multiple elements.
  • A new PPP sheet will be introduced.
  • The ability to delete draft declarations from the 'environmental declaration applications' list will be added.
  • New entry fields will be added, such as the applicability of unforeseen reuse (H-factor) when using the data.

10. How can I remove a user from, or add one to, my business account?

All users of the entry module are linked to a business account. Only Stichting NMD can currently add or remove users from the account. Do you want to make changes within the account? E-mail your question to info@milieudatabase.nl

11. How can I leave feedback on the new entry platform?

If there are any questions or comments on the use of the new entry platform, you may provide feedback by filling in the form below.
