What does this mean for you, and how can you prepare?
The introduction of WLC-GWP will lead to changes in methodology, data use and certification. The impact of this development will vary across stakeholder groups. Here’s what it means for you:
Use the tabs to see what is changing for each stakeholder group and how you can prepare.
What does this mean for you?
Your environmental data will be used not only for MPG calculations, but also in the context of WLC-GWP.
How can you prepare?
Ensure that your environmental declarations are up to date and complete. Anticipate broader application of your data and follow updates from Stichting NMD.
What does this mean for you?
From 2028, a calculation requirement will apply for buildings larger than 1,000 m². The energy performance certificate will then state the greenhouse gas emissions in CO₂ equivalents over a period of 50 years, expressed as the WLC-GWP. From 2030, this requirement will apply to all new buildings, and a performance threshold will be introduced. This information will be included in the Dutch Building Decree (Bbl) in due course.
How can you prepare?
Stay informed about developments related to this indicator, ensure you can interpret it, and make it a topic of discussion in design and development processes.
What does this mean for you?
You will be involved in the implementation and validation of the WLC-GWP calculation in your software – if you choose to support it.
How can you prepare?
Take part in the consultation and alignment sessions organised by Stichting NMD. This will give you timely insight into the technical and functional requirements, enabling you to prepare your calculation tool for the calculation rules of the WLC-GWP method.
What does this mean for you?
You will be working with additional calculation rules and scenarios specifically aimed at CO₂ emissions over a 50-year period.
How can you prepare?
LCA reviewers and practitioners are involved in the development of the Assessment Method and can prepare for new requirements concerning data, scenarios and calculation rules. Active participation in the recognised reviewers' consultation offers the opportunity to contribute to the practical feasibility and applicability of the method.
The arrival of WLC-GWP brings changes, but the Netherlands is well prepared. By building on the existing system and maintaining strong cooperation between government, market and Stichting NMD, we continue to safeguard the quality of environmental data in the built environment.
