Compensation scheme Filling the gaps: compensation for compiling environmental data
In 2025, the NMD Foundation will also make a compensation scheme available for product groups that are still missing from the National Environmental Database. Producers and industry associations can apply for compensation for the compilation of environmental data, so that these products can be included in environmental performance calculations.

What is the Filling the gaps Compensation Scheme?
The Filling the gaps Compensation Scheme is a scheme run by the National Environmental Database Foundation (NMD) that makes it possible to receive compensation for drawing up environmental declarations for product groups that are currently still missing from the National Environmental Database. These so-called gaps are products that are often used in construction, but for which no specific environmental data is available yet.
Who is the scheme intended for?
The compensation scheme is intended for producers and industry associations that want to have environmental data compiled for one of the selected product groups. The reimbursement is intended as financial support for conducting an LCA study that meets the NMD inclusion criteria.
Which products will be considered in 2025?
The product groups that will be eligible for compensation in 2025 have been compiled in a list organized around three themes:
- Products on the priority list of gaps in the NMD
- Product groups within the National Approach to Bio-based Building (NABB)
- Innovative products that contribute to CO₂ reduction in the Netherlands

Please note: only the product groups on this list are eligible for the compensation scheme.
Why add your product to the NMD?
Having your product included in the National Environmental Database offers several advantages:
- Your product can be included in official environmental performance calculations (EPB or ECI).
- You increase the visibility of your product in calculation tools and specifications.
- You contribute to transparency and sustainable use of materials in the construction sector.
- You make it possible for clients and designers to make informed sustainable choices.
Background: three years of the reimbursement scheme
The NMD Foundation is now implementing the compensation scheme for the third year in a row. In previous years, this has led to valuable additions to the database. By continuing the scheme in 2025, the NMD's coverage will continue to improve - with more attention to biobased and innovative applications.
