Step by step towards better data: new environmental product declarations for utility and residential construction now available

Tuesday 29 July 2025

Stichting NMD is working on a step-by-step quality improvement of category 3 data for utility and residential construction (C&U). For each building element, we reassess which environmental product declarations are needed to ensure a reliable environmental performance calculation. In doing so, we focus on consistent and recognisable naming, clear explanations and well-structured reports that document all assumptions and starting points. In this way, we enrich the environmental product declarations with additional information and make the system more transparent and easier to apply in practice.

As of today, the updated environmental product declarations are available for the elements interior wall openings (NL-SfB 32) and structural floors (NL-SfB 13.2 and 23.2). In consultation with the calculation tool providers, a transition period of three months has been agreed. During this period, the existing category 3 environmental product declarations will remain available.

To provide insight into the effects of the update, Stichting NMD has carried out an impact analysis using several reference buildings. This analysis shows that the new data do not present a barrier to meeting the current environmental performance requirement.

We invite users to review and apply the new data and reports in their environmental performance calculations.
